Guitar Chords: Ambarsariya, Fukrey [2013]
Ambarsariya is a wonderful Punjabi song sung by Sona Mahapatra based completely on guitar. The song will challenge your chords as well as strumming skills.
In the key of Em, this song uses quite a few Major7 chords which might need some practice if you have not been playing them regularly. Although some of the chords can be played in open position, I highly recommend playing all barre chords for 2 reasons. First, the original song also seems to be played in barre position including Em in 7th fret instead of easy open position. Secondly, the strumming pattern involves muting which can be easily done with barre positions. Here’s a lesson to brush up your barre chords.
So what about strumming pattern? There are two – one for Mukhda and the other for Antra only.
Strumming pattern for Mukhda –
|1&2&|3&4&|5&6&|7&8&| |D--U|--D-|-U--|D-D-|
Strumming pattern for Antra (8-beat pattern but written twice to keep in sync) –
|1&2&|3&4&|5&6&|7&8&| |D--U|DU--|D--U|DU--|
Few important points:
All UP strokes are muted by loosening the grip of the left hand. You can also mute the DOWN strokes. Just listen to the track and improvise.
The chord changes in the song are quite fast and the strumming pattern is 16-beat. So the chord switches in-between the pattern. Here’s a lesson to help you improve quick chord switching. One of the common chord progressions (Em/D/Am/Bm) in the song is played as below:
|D--U|--D-|-U--|D-D-| Em D Am Bm
Here are the chords used in the song:

I was searching for songs with interesting chords and happened to pass through this blog… good transcription… however, the set of chords in the ambarsariya stretch is nearly a cycle of fifths in the key of Em the 1st time..
(Em Am D Gmaj7 Cmaj7 F#m Am B)
and the 2nd time it seems to sound like this:
(Em Gmaj7 Dmaj7 B) x 2
Thanks,
