Guitar Chords: Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

A R Rahman has rolled out another romantic song straight from the hearts of those million people who share it with him when surrounded by his music. It is a beautiful song with music complementing the vocals wonderfully. The strumming pattern is a bit unorthodox which involves muting with the left hand but it is very easy. So here goes..
[ad#Google Adsense – Hot Post Ad]
Gm – 333553
Cm – 34553X
F – 112331
The starting interlude has to be strummed as well as muted. Considering it to be a 3-beat sequence, hit the chord DOWN twice and then instead of striking on the 3rd beat, just mute the chord. That should produce the desired effect. If you find a better way, do tell me. The interlude chords are as below:
Interlude
Gm — Gm — Cm
Gm — Gm — Cm
The above steps has to be done for each instance of the chord in the interlude. Now the song starts…
MUKHDA
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi Aditi zinda(Gm)gi mein yuhi koi (Cm)apna lagta hai.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi Aditi wo bich(Gm)har jaaye to ek (Cm)sapna lagta hai.
Aise mei koi (Gm)kaise apne (Gm)aansu o ko (Cm)behne se roke?
Aur (F)kaise koi sochle every(Gm)thing’s gonna be ok?
The first two lines of the above stanza can be played without continuous strumming i.e. by just playing the interlude.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi to lage zinda(Gm)gi mein rahi naa khu(Cm)shi aur naa mazaa.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi to lage har (Gm)din mushkil aur (Cm)har pal ek sazaa.
Aise mein koi (Gm)kaise musku(Gm)raye, kaise (Cm)hasde khush hoke?
Aur (F)kaise koi soch de every(Gm)thing gonna be ok?
The INTERLUDE is played again once but it is delayed by half a bar.
Gm – Cm – G
ANTRA 1
(A#)Soch jara jaane(Cm)ja tujhko hum (A#)kitna chahte hai.
(Gm)Rotein hai hum bhi a(F)gar teri ankhon mein (A#)aansu aate hai.
(Gm)Gaane to aata na(Cm)hi hai magar phir (Cm)bhi hum gaate hai(Gm).
Ke Aditi (Cm)maan kabhi, kabhi (Cm)saare jahan mein an(F)dhera hota hai;
Lekin (Cm)raat ke (Gm)baad hi to sa(F)vera hota hai(F).
MUKHDA Again
More repeat of INTERLUDE and chord progressions…
ANTRA 2
(A#)Tu khush hai to la(Cm)ge ke jahan mein (A#)chhaayi hai khushi.
(Gm)Suraj nikle (F)baadlon se aur (Gm)baatein zindagi.
(Gm)Suun to jara mad(Cm)hosh hawa tujh(Cm)se kehne la(Gm)gi.
Ke Aditi (Cm)wo jo bichhad-te hai (Cm)ek na ek din (F)phir mil jaate hai;
Aditi (Cm)jaane tu ya (Gm)jaane na phool (F)phir khil jaate hai(F).
MUKHDA Again…
Thanx Namrata, for bringing this song to my attention. Wouldn’t afford to have missed this song for anything… Unfortunately, when you are immersed in computers, TV becomes an accessory rather than a necessity and my case is similar!
Thanx Nikhil for suggesting better Antara chords!
Dude..these chords are amazing…perfect…could u try the intro also..i mean i feel they use juz two strings 2 get the effect…nt sure abt dat..juz chk out..
hey i hav learnt chords but der is a big problem..actually my teacher taught me chords differently…i guess so.Each chord from C major to G monor had 3 formations( dominant, subdominant, i guess.. well not sure)…but here u guyz only tell da chord and not which formation.Oh! itz becoming very confusing. I am just a little girl and i need help badly…i also want 2 play songs…..please sum1 help.
I HOPE SUM ANGEL WILL SURELY REPLY
hay… i think m late as this blog was posted long back…! but i’ll sugges u that… take ur own time to develop ur skills…! go slow & stedy…! u’ll surely overcome all ur prob’s…!
Keep Rocking…!
Ya you are right this is a simple language i also learn that chord differently.ask your teacher what was that chord known as and then try to search it on google
Thanx Jayesh! Yes it is possible that the intro uses only three (not two) strings.. If that’s the case it would surely be the strings that are pressed in Gm and Cm… I would have to try it out.. Actually, striking the whole chord also gives a very real effect so I put that up here.
Abhinav, this was really good and sounds the acutall chords. thanks dear to share them with us
Thanx Gautam! Why don’t you share some chords/tabs that you might be knowing… it would be great!
hey mate , could i post some leads and chords of mine…where ?? where do u have ur leads posted..pls reply!!!!
Hey, awesome man..!
I had worked out the chorus but i did not realize the verses have the same chord structure..!
My girlfriend is gonna be so pleased when i finally sing dis out to her..!
All the best buddy! 🙂
hey can u please tell me the strumming pattern for this song?
i have tried to play this many times but not able to get the rhythm properly.. please help me out…
Dude,
Good stuff but…
I believe there is a fair amount of Bb thrown in this song… Its not a simple Gm F Cm combo…
I am also sure that adding D during …andhera hota hai makes the round up neater… check it out…
I was hoping somebody would have cracked the title track ( the jazz number) looks like It’ll have to wait….
abey D major tab aayega JAB song ko Am mein lega. Abhinav ne Cm mein song liya hai. Dude U can take any group. but not D maj in Cm hahahaha…
@arun… i have mentioned the strumming pattern in detail in the post above, just play it continously in the rest of the song.
@re-look at… The song is in the scale of Gm, I don’t think Bb will be suitable.
The D chord falls too flat at “andhera hota hai”… I think F fits best there. Maybe you can play D again after the words have been spoken, but there too F sounds better!
The title track is too jazzy for acoustic playing, try searching for it. Someone must have noted it out.
Yes… there is a lot of A#
dude.. ur antara chords are not correct
(A#)Soch jara jaane(F)ja tujhko hum (A#)kitna chahte hai.
(Gm)Rotein hai hum bhi a(F)gar teri ankhon mein (A#)aansu aate hai.
(Gm)Gaane to aata na(Cm)hi hai magar phir (Cm)bhi hum gaate ha(Gm)i.
Ke Aditi (Cm)maan kabhi, kabhi (Cm)saare jahan mein an(F)dhera hota hai;
Lekin (Cm)raat ke (Gm)baad hi to sa(Cm)vera hota hai(Cm).
Hi Nikhil! I checked your chords and I think they are right.. A#(Bb) does fit in the Antara.. I had posted the above chords in one night.. maybe I should be more patient with it! Post updated. Thnx!
Welcome 🙂
I wish I could sing along
I just cant… strumming is offbeat 😛
Yup strumming is off-beat.. and I have never been a very good singer! What I try to do is to not make the strumming continuous as much as possible. And where I have to play it continuously, I think one chord ahead so as to reach it in time!
Wow, abhinav! they are kind of an exact match! Thank man, nice work..
hi….
altho m a beginner n dnt kno as much as u ppl
but i feel in the starting chords of this song ie. Gm … i guess one should try to bend chord lil bit which is very easy n also creates the same effect as its in the song …
Hi Aditya! Thanx for your suggestion. But what exactly do you mean by bending the chord? A string can be bend but how can a complete chord be bent?
hi Abhinav … yaar while playin the chord u just try to bend the strings u ve held to make out a chord… it creates a good effect which in song has been used … hope u l njoy doin that …..
Aditya.. I think what you are referring to is not bending but muting the chords.. By slightly lifting the chord-finger formation, the sound is muted. There can be no bending a chord buddy!
this the best blog for guitar chords of bollywood songs….awesome work abhinav…keep it up…tu marathi ahes ka ?? ladh bhari kaam karat ahes tu mitra !!
Thanx for the kind words Vibhas! na me mirathi nahi aahe.. me banaras la rahato, pan 10 varshanni thoda sa marathi sikhla aahe..! (plz ignore any errors in marathi 🙂 !)
hmm i invented a different style lol
(standard tuning)
place a capo or use a barre chord at fret 7 and on D
string place finger on the 9th fret, and strum only D string and A string, then release finger and strum again: u know how to get the effect, cuz im just 16 and i got it, u guys must be smarter lol
and then the next part, still having a capo on or barre chord on 7th string, do the same thing as be4 but only change between strings G string and D sting only i.e. place finger on 9th fret of g string and d open, and strum as before…
heres a link to a sound clip if u wud like to listen to how it actually sounds 🙂
http://www.box.net/shared/4tc1x66o8s
enjoy
oh btw, at the end of the sound clip, i added that part which is unusual i.e at the part where hes done with the 2 paras.. after he goes like “everythings gonna be ok” for the first time… ud know if u listened to the song :), its easy to fugure out
Thnx btw, im Shuvo 🙂
gr8 work man….sounds perfect..bt i guess i cudnt quite get da strummin pattern…..coz da way u hav sugested ..2 down n den mutin..doesnt fits dat wel or may be…..help pls…
n can we use ” Cm position —>888 10 10 8 ??
remarkable work though…thnks
hey guys, for the intro leads, try this….
Place 3rd finger (ring finger) on 4th string (D) – 7th fret and 1st finger (index) on 3rd string – 5th fret. Now, pluck both the strings at once and slide backwards so that 3rd finger is now on 4th string 5th fret and the 1st finger is on the 3rd string 3rd fret. then pluck both strings once again. once again…this would give the sound of the first intro..hear the song and keep playing it till u get the timings right..
For the second one, do the same with with 3rd finger on 3rd string 7th fret and 1st finger on 2nd string 5th fret.
Pluck both these strgins and slide backwards to 3rd finger on 3rd string 5ht fret and 1st finger on 2nd string 3rd fret.
this shld give sound of the intro
hey dude
dis is wrong note of intro lead
@sheki
What i meant was strum, then hit the strings with ur fingers (right hand, the one u strum with to mute) and then strum again, try it and lemmi knowthnx btw
Hi Shuvo.. Thanx for your suggestion! Basically what you have suggested is to play keys of Bm and D. But that doesn’t give the perfect sound.. What you got into was Cm which is just half a bar (1 fret) right to the one you mentioned. Also it is a higher scale so wouldn’t fit.
Hi Sheki! I will try to explain the strumming pattern. Its very simple.
Consider a two-beat sequence. This means two beats (strokes) per second. So the strumming should go like this: (D-|DM) In the first ‘second’ hit DOWN in the first beat and do nothing in the second beat. In the next ‘second’, hit DOWN again in the first beat and MUTE(M) in the second beat. Muting can be simply done by releasing the pressure of your left hand while holding the chord. You can also mute using the right hand as suggested by Shuvo though it is tougher to master.
Hey Sandy What you have suggested sounds really close to original but only the first part. The second part doesn’t sound good. How about 3rd finger on 3rd string, 7th fret and 2nd finger on 2nd string 6th fret.. now slide it backwards by 1 bar (2 frets).. also you can use your 4th finger just above your 3rd finger in both parts. Then you will realize that you are actually playing Gm and Cm which is exactly what I have posted! But that’s an excellent improvisation!
thnks a ton bro…u hav cleared da picture….man can u pls post da chords for dil ko-rhtdm….ur tabs work fine.i ve been lukin for da chords for this song…even dowloaded visual tutorials from you tube…stil not satisfied….. .
Considerin ur quality of work, i guess my quest ends over here…..thnks buddy…u rock
Thanx Sheki for the kind words! I am also learning guitar and not an expert in any sense! I will look into the chords of that song as well… By the way, you can’t use Cm8 coz that would change the scale and also it doesn’t make sense coz it is tough to shift from Gm to Cm8.
The song Dil Ko uses a lot of chords.. like Am, Dm, G, C, F, E7, A# etc.. try out with these chords you will know yourself which fits where! If any problem, then ask me I will help you out.
awesome work dude.i m also learning guitar and ur work was really good.if u can pls try Am for the interlude it sounds me a bit better.thnx
actualy ive been learnin guitar since 6 months only…so u know…gettin trouble to find da exact position of these chords….so sorry for da trouble man bt if u can spoonfeed me…i mean whenever u get time….its a btful song actually….try it…thnks
No problem buddy! But for this song you need to master barre chords else you won’t be able to play Dil Ko. All the above chords have to be played in barre form. You won’t get a more perfect example of it than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXOdZ2OaiVs
hello! there…
can you please explain me in a bit more detailed manner?
I’m still a learner…but i wanna surprise my friends with this awesome song.
Hi Kaushik! I have explained the song quite explicitly. If you are facing problem in any particular thing then do ask me. You can go through the comments above for more detail. Ya buddy you can play this song for your friends and girl friend too! Enjoy!
gooood
hi abhinav.. thanks for the post.. jsut wondering after reading all the comments. You agreed to some parts of the song being wrong ( ref Nikhil ). If so could you please update/edit the post above.. cheers..
Hi Veneith! The post was updated as soon as Nikhil informed it. Enjoy!
Hey great work!! the song worked out very nicely for a beginner like me, but I’m unable to work out the interlude. I know I’m asking too much but a video on YouTube would be awesome 😉
Otherwise, a little more clarity would be really appreciated. The problem is that I’m just unable to understand that (being an extreme beginner, i guess).
Anywayz, very well done! Your blog is awesome!
I mean the starting interlude, when you say hot the chord twice, which chord are you talking about? Hit it twice and then mute it?
And then when you talk about interlude Gm-Gm-Cm, I’m all confused there.
Hi Anas! Thanx! Ya I try to make it easier for beginners.. I have explained the strumming pattern and muting in comment #26. Go through it. That should help you.
In comment 26 you’ve said (D-|DM), are you playing the D chord (2320xx) before going on to play Gm-Gm-Cm?
No buddy! If you read it carefully, I have written ‘D’ to mark the DOWN stroke and ‘M’ for the muting. The only chords you have to play in the intro is Gm and Cm (barre chords). The (D-|DM) is the stroking pattern for the right hand while the chords held by left hand are simply Gm and Cm.
Oh yeah, my bad 😀 Thanks a lot mate!
i Kno How 2 play F bt not Gm and Cm. I m New 2 playimg guitar…. if u cud jst help me by telling wat r d right chords i d b glad. tell me fret by fret. i d b glad if u do. thnx
@Abhinav: Isn’t this link a copy of your work? No credits given! No mention of your name either!
http://livingguitar.wordpress.com/2008/07/04/kabhi-kabhi-aditi-zindagi-jaane-tu-ya-jaane-na/
Unless that site is yours too 😉
@Juhi: The website (link below) has all the chords explained pretty nicely. Gm and Cm are there as well and nicely explicated.
http://www.jamplay.com/guitar-chords/free-guitar-chords.html
Hy Anas, that website is not mine.. ya he is copying everything without credit.. I have complained against it with google.
Yup Juhi, the website mentioned by Anas will explain everything. Practice barre chords… without it you won’t be able to play most of the songs.
Hi Abhinav!
I am really for sorry it. I apologize for what I have done. I have now written your name as a contributor on my blog http://www.livingguitar.blogspot.com . I hope its clear now. Thanks for making me realizing my mistake.
abhinav in d begining gm is ok but try to do dis … like move to alternate fret of gm and while playing d interlude strike once and den shift back to gm.. like dis do for bm also ithink d song is in dis way……………………….
i figured out an intro, i feel its pretty close….
place ur index finger on 5th string, 5th fret; middle finger 4th string, 5th fret and ur little finger on the 4th string 7th fret;
now strum the two strings once and remove the little finger and strum it again. Repeat this twice and then shift the whole formation one string down i.e. index on the 4th, middle on the 3rd and little on the 3rd repeat the strum pattern once. play this whole sequence twice
the chords are really stupendous but need further improvement ………..I think dat one or two chords are taken on the wrong place otherwise everything is o.k
Don’t play that intro with the song. Try to record your intro.
I play it with pull-offs on D string. Try this 7 pulloff to 5th on D string. Then C minor. Of course use muting in C minor.this is perfect according to me.
@abhineet, @Piyush Banerjee, @Arpit
What you all are suggesting is fine but if you watch this song in the movie, you can see the girl playing the chords at the start and not any lead. What she plays is
Gmadd9-Gm-Gm
Gmadd9-Gm-Gm
Cmadd9-Cm-Cm
So try to play this as I have suggested above with muting.
Hi Abhinav…
Thank you for your hard work and to other contributors which made me play the song easily… I’m extremely thankful to you!!!
Keep it up!
😉
well, i m learner of guitar and i found it really easy and good.Thanx for the chord abhinav . i am playing it on my college farewell party . hope it would b good.

Hey Abhinav
Awesome job on the chords man!!! They all work out perfectly
although, you kno the part in the songs that goes
“Hey Aditi Has De Has De Has De Has De Has De Has De Tu Zara
Nahi Toh Bas Thoda Thoda Thoda Thoda Thoda Thoda Muskura”
right after the 2nd mukda
i think u said to play the interlude once again…but do u kno exactly what chords to play?
and ur interlude: Gm-Cm-G
gm and cm are fine, but when they go to G, they use a different picking w/ chord variation 3 times rite? correct me if im wrong, cus im not completely sure
but great tab, and this is an awesome song. nice work!!!
Hi Ankit! During the lines “Hey Aditi Has De Has De … Thoda Thoda Muskura” the interlude keeps playing in the background. By interlude I mean Gm Gm Cm which I mentioned at the start and not Gm Cm G. Yup the chord variation is thrice.
Ravish, what you are asking for are tabs of the songs and not chords. I have posted the chords. Search through Google, you will get the tabs as well which are especially useful for piano.
Chords are good. The Intro is simple. Strike once on Am 5th fret and slide down to Gm 3rd fret again strike once, this is done twice, followed by similar work on Dm 5th fret to Cm 3rd fret.
Hey Saji, read the above comments. What you have suggested has been improvised and improved to sound much more original. Check it out!
Hey please find the chords of sinbad the sailor…There r 3 chords…1st chord is on 3rd fret wth 4th & 5th string on 5th fret..Then f major..I m missing 1 chord
Its too Childish style. so dude, try some gr8 technics.
Can i get chords of “Tum se hi” from the film Jab We Met?
I really Love that song yar
hey man ….in the intro , the original is like..
u slide down from Am(bar chord) to Gm and then in second part , u just slide from 557755 to Cm
cheers !
hi abi
it rocks to the core man
hi abi,i am a newbie….i have been able to do the intro as u suggested but cud u also explain to me the strumming pattern of the mukhda and the antra….it wud be of great help!! like the” du du “style
hey abhinav thnx 4 d chords i think its my third song 4m ur site thnx a millionssss….

ur site is reeeaally helpful 4 beginners like me
thankuuuuuuuu
Try these chords. I think you missed the Eb (D#) change altogether. There is also one more harmonic chord at “Lekin raat ke baad” which I’ve to figure out.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi Aditi zinda(Gm)gi mein yuhi koi (F)apna lagta hai.
Kabhi ka(Gm)bhi Aditi wo bich(Gm)har jaaye to ek (F)sapna lagta hai.
Aise mei koi (Gm)kaise apne (Gm)aansu o ko (Eb)behne se roke?
Aur kaise(Gm) koi sochle(F) every(Gm)thing’s gonna be ok?

Thanks.
Hi Abhinav,
Can you please provide the leads of 3 or 4 songs listed so as a beginner it will be more help-full to me and other guy who just get started with guitar…..
Hi Abhinav, thanks so much for all your chords so far, Ive been playing for about six months and I have closely followed your advice. I read somewhere that the interlude or the starting in this song is done with slide action:
Am-Gm
Dm-Cm
If I try hard enough, the Am-Gm sounds fine, its harder to get the other one! Also is there anyway we can hear your version of Iktara? I tried the strumming your provided but cant keep the singing up with it and the version i tried by ear, just by listening isnt that nice, thanks and well done again
Pooja.
