How to Decorate Your Music with Suspended Chords

Suspended chords are those which you should know in addition to the major and minor chords. People often tend to feel mystified with these chords thinking they are tough. On the contrary, they are very simple to play and beautifully ornament the major/minor chords associated with them. I will tell you how. (more…)

Guitar Chords: Soniyo (From the Heart), Raaz 2, The Mystery Continues

There are two versions of this song, but as you might have guessed, I like the slow one (From the Heart) as it gives more scope for guitar playing. Fortunately, this song uses basic chords, though I would suggest to use barre chords instead of open chords if you know how to play it. I have also tabbed the interlude part in between the mukhda and first antra. I didn't give it enough time and it is a simplified version of the original which uses more effect. If any pro guitarist can suggest an improved version, it is most welcome! The strumming is even more simple and uncluttered. I use this: | D U | D DU | The first…

Guitar Chords: Allah Ke Bande, Waisa Bhi Hota Hai

The most unique thing about Allah Ke Bande is its strumming. It uses the muting effect with the left hand in an excellent fashion. This makes it imperative to use barre chords for the muting to be effective. Moreover, it is an excellent song to practice acoustic guitar though the chords are pretty advanced and require you to know barre chords. Here are the chords used in the song: Fortunately the strumming pattern is not as difficult as the chords. Just remember to mute the strokes by loosening the left hand grip. D-DU | D-DU | D - M--M | M--M | M - Note: In the strumming pattern M indicates muting Finally the song: Just hit the chords (Gadd9)Toota…

Acoustic Guitar Rules Over Electric [Poll Results]

Last Month, I ran a poll asking my readers about their favorite guitar type. The results are quite interesting and it really heartened me to see that people still prefer to start learning guitar with an acoustic version rather than an electric one. Acoustic Guitar clearly dominated with 254 of the 411 people opting for acoustic while 63 people chose electric guitar. 82 people are good with both acoustic as well as electric which is a positive sign. Pehli Nazar Mein, Atif Aslam [VIDEO RECORDING]

Many of my readers were asking me to post videos of the songs that I put up here at my blog. But there were two things that were stopping me from publishing a video. First, I am an awful singer and needed to find someone who could accompany me on the guitar. Second, I don't possess a good camera. Finally I managed to obtain a digital camera from a friend. One of my office friends, Bikram, is singing the song while I am strumming the guitar. Do let me know in the comments about what you think of this little cameo. To know the chords of this song, check out Guitar Chords: Pehli Nazar Mein, Race by Atif Aslam. If…

The Art of Guitar Strumming

Photo by Justin Shearer While learning the guitar and the notes, and chords, some students find it difficult to actually play the chords of a song in a basic strumming pattern. To some it comes naturally, but for others it requires a lot of practice. I had to go through major patience levels to grasp chord positions, but I got through with the strumming barrier quite naturally. So this post here is not for the naturally gifted strummers, but for people who find problems in the DOWN / UP movement of strumming. (more…)
